Lately I've been climbing ivory towers. Built as high as fault line depth, high as city limits spread. Perched on top and look out into the star light. Map the path of a satellite, trace the signal to the noise floor. Lately I've been feeling separated. “Oh can you hear it in the bare rock? The epicenter, distant thunder.” Ride alone into the place where they buried him. Fall asleep under a tree, dream of Romans killing women. While the horses eat the grass. While the children sing. Please forgive us this trespass, we are no one! Match sticks piled up and glued in place, framework set in the morning sun. Built on plains in the Earth's good grace, standing tall in the mid day sun. On borrowed time that we can't replace, set the spark in the burning sun. All the natives for us displaced, up in flames in the late day sun. Broken busted to our dismay, infernos in the waning sun. Soon to wipe our smile from its face and burn to ash in the setting sun.

I can see the shadows at night; through the trees and all of the light. This is what it's like, living the dreams of dead men. Our eyes give thanks when words lose life. We hold our breath through fading light. On endless roads where faith meets fate. How will we know when we are home? This is what it's like living the dreams of dead men.
